What it is
What post-build cleaning covers.
Post-build cleaning is the specialist finishing clean a property gets once construction, renovation, or a refurbishment is done. Cutting plasterboard, sanding timber, and drilling into masonry throw off a dust far finer than the household kind, and static makes it grip surfaces rather than sit on them. A regular clean cannot lift it. The kit built for the job can.
Nothing reachable is skipped. Walls, ceilings, floors, fittings, glass, tiles, sockets, vents, rails, and tracks all get worked over. So do the marks the trades leave behind: builder's smears on glass and tiles, paint spots on the floor, dried sealant, and splashes of mortar.
This is almost always the final step before the keys change hands, whether that is to a homeowner, a landlord, a buyer, or a fresh tenant. It is the clean that turns a completed build into one that reads as finished.
When you'd need this
When post-build cleaning is the right call.
If a job was large enough to keep trades on site for more than a day, it has earned a proper post-build clean. Liverpool's steady flow of refurbishment work and landlords redoing homes between tenancies keeps these jobs coming. The cases below crop up most.
- An extension is finished and the family is waiting to move back in.
- A loft conversion is done and needs to be ready to hand over.
- A full kitchen refit, with the new appliances and new flooring in place.
- A developer handing a new-build to its buyer. The developer covers the clean on some jobs, the buyer sorts it on others.
- A flat or house given a complete refurbishment ahead of a sale or a re-let.
- A commercial fit-out wrapped up and ready for the business to take occupation.
- A bathroom refit, where the tiling and plumbing have thrown off heavy dust and residue.
- A decorating job finished across several rooms.
The work
What a post-build specialist actually does.
A post-build clean runs top to bottom and misses no surface. The specialist moves through the property room by room, in an order that keeps already-cleaned spaces from being dusted over again.
The vacuuming is done with HEPA-filtered machines, not the domestic sort. A household vacuum blows fine dust straight back into the room; a HEPA unit traps it. Every reachable surface gets vacuumed, walls, ceilings, light fittings, and rails included. Dust sitting on a ceiling drops as soon as the heating goes on, so leaving it means the customer is cleaning again a fortnight later.
After the vacuum comes hand-wiping, every surface and fitting covered. Damp microfibre does most of the work, with dedicated solutions kept for glass, tiles, and stainless steel. Cracks, sockets, and vent grilles are each wiped by hand.
The builder's marks come next: plaster flecked onto tiles, paint spotted on glass, sealant dried onto worktops, mortar smeared across floors. Each lifts with the right product. Where paint or sealant has set hard on glass, a razor blade takes it off. Natural-stone floors get the marble or stone treatment they need.
Windows are done inside and, where they can be reached, outside too. The tracks are vacuumed then wiped. Internal vents and extractor grilles are taken off, vacuumed, and put back.
Floors are saved for last: a thorough vacuum, then a mop or polish to suit the flooring. Carpet that was sheeted over during the build is vacuumed and, if it needs it, steam-cleaned. The property is checked for sanitation before it is signed off.
- HEPA-filtered vacuuming across every surface, walls, ceilings, and fittings included.
- Hand-wiping after the vacuum, with the right chemistry for each surface.
- Builder's mark removal: paint, plaster, sealant, mortar.
- Windows cleaned inside and, where reachable, out.
- Window tracks, vents, and extractor grilles cleaned one by one.
- Flooring treated to suit it: vacuum, mop, polish, or a carpet steam-clean.
- A final sanitation check before the property is handed over.
Process
From end of build to ready for handover.
1. You tell us about the build
A quick form, photos of the finished job if you have them, the scope (extension, refit, full refurb, new-build handover), and the date you are working to. The wizard gathers what the specialist needs to know.
2. We connect you with the right specialist
Mon to Fri 9 to 5 we ring you back inside the hour. Outside those hours, by 9am the next working day. For post-build the lead is a vetted commercial and domestic team that covers Liverpool and Merseyside and travels to the job. Other vetted teams stand ready as alternates.
3. Specialist quote and schedule
Your quote comes off the property's size, the scope, and the timeline. Most post-build cleans land somewhere between one and three days, depending on scale. The specialist can slot the clean in ahead of your handover so the place is ready for the customer or the new tenant.
4. Clean and sign-off
The specialist cleans the whole property top to bottom, then walks it with you (or with the builder, if they are running the job) before signing it off. From there it is ready to hand over.
Why come through us
Skip the cleaning quote chase.
Some builders fold the post-build clean into their price. Plenty don't, which leaves the customer chasing one down in the final week of the build, right when every other loose end is being tied off too.
Come through us and the clean is booked around your handover date. We hand the specialist the scope before they ring, so the number you get back is priced on the real property rather than on guesswork.
We have used these post-build teams for years. We know which one moves quickest on a domestic refurb and which one is the safer bet on a commercial fit-out. When the handover date is locked in, that call is worth making.
There is nothing to pay us. The specialist quotes you directly, or the builder if they are footing it. We are paid by the specialist once the job is done.
Pricing
How post-build cleaning is priced.
The price tracks the property's size, the scope, and the state it is in. A 2-bed flat after a kitchen refit might come in at a few hundred pounds. A whole-house refurb or a commercial fit-out can reach the low thousands. The specialist quotes once they have seen photos or walked the place.
If your builder wrote a post-build clean into the original quote, check what it actually stretches to. A good few of those included cleans amount to a sweep rather than a real post-build job. When the customer wants the property genuinely fit to move into, the specialist clean is what delivers that.
There is never a markup from us. Whatever the specialist quotes is what you pay.

Related specialist services
Post-Build Cleaning cases often overlap with other specialist work.
Specialist cases rarely fit one category cleanly. If your situation involves more than one of the services below, mention it on the form. We'll match you to a specialist who handles both, or connect you with two partners working together.
- Fire damage cleaning. A rebuild after a fire usually wants a full post-build clean once the structural work is signed off. The same specialist tends to take on both.
- Severe mould removal. Water finding its way in during a build (a burst pipe, or rain through a part-finished roof) can seed mould that needs treating before handover.
- Cleaning after pest control. Building work now and then turns up a pest problem that was already there, and it needs clearing before the final post-build clean.
FAQ
Post-Build Cleaning FAQs
Common questions about post-build cleaning in Liverpool.
Should the builder include post-build cleaning in their quote?
Some do, plenty don't. A lot of builders build a sweep or a light clean into their original price, and that is seldom the same thing as a real post-build clean. If the customer wants the property ready to hand over without picking up a mop themselves, a specialist post-build clean is usually the way to go.
How long does a post-build clean take?
That comes down to size and scope. A 1-bed flat after a kitchen refit can be wrapped in a day. A 4-bed house after a full refurb tends to run two to three days. A commercial fit-out can take a week. The specialist pins down the timeline when they quote.
Can the clean happen while snagging is still being done?
Best not. Snagging kicks up fresh dust, which means the post-build clean has to be done over. We'd say book the clean for after snagging wraps, even if that nudges the customer's move-in back a day or two.
What's the difference between a post-build clean and a deep clean?
A deep clean suits a lived-in or recently lived-in property and goes after grease, grime, and everyday residue. A post-build clean is for a completed build and targets construction dust, builder's marks, and every-surface sanitation before anyone moves in. The kit differs, the chemistry differs, and so does the scope.
Do you clean windows externally too?
Where they can be reached, yes. Ground-floor and ground-accessible windows are done outside as standard. Anything higher needs external access (a cherry picker, scaffold, or a window-cleaning crew), which the specialist prices up separately if it is called for.
New-build handover from a developer. Is post-build cleaning the developer's job?
Usually it is, though the standard swings about. Many developers throw in a "final clean" that is really the builder's sweep rather than a proper post-build clean. If the snagging list is flagging dust on light fittings, paint spots on glass, or mortar marks on floors, a specialist post-build clean is what clears it.
Commercial fit-out post-build clean. How is it different?
Mainly the scale and the scope. Commercial fit-outs bring bigger floor areas, more glass, more made-to-measure fittings, and a fixed date for the business to open. The specialist sizes the crew to match. These often run overnight or across a weekend so they land around the move-in.
